The Green Bay Preble Optimist Club has stepped forward with a $400.00 grant. The money is directed to support our youth programs; Youth Waterfowl Day and Youth Learn to Hunt-Waterfowl.
Youth Waterfowl Day 2016 will be August 6. This event is free to the public and targets youth to get involved in waterfowling.
The day includes “hands on” retriever training and marksmanship along with other events including duck calling with a free duck call. Lunch is provided along with a T-shirt and cap.
Youth Learn to Hunt-Waterfowl is a three day event, with the hunt occurring September 17 & 18. Youth hunting events give hunters ages 10 to 15 an opportunity to hunt and gain valuable experience without competing against adult hunters.
Special seasons for a variety of species allow only youngsters to hunt during these days under the supervision of their mentor.
On the Friday night of the hunt, youth along with mentors go over firearms safety, target identification and get out on the range to sharpen up shooting skills.
Saturday’s mentored hunt starts early and concludes at noon over lunch. Mentors and youth can also hunt Sunday.
Both of these events are manned by volunteers who give of their time and efforts so the grant money goes a long way to leverage the costs of putting on these events.
A big thank you to the Green Bay Preble Optimist Club.
